Travel & Stay

  • We would like to ask all our guests to be up to date on their vaccinations and boosters before the event. Even though masks are no longer required in Southern California, you are welcome to wear one if you would like. For everyone’s health and safety, we ask that if you are feeling sick and exhibiting symptoms to please stay home.

  • For our guests flying into Southern California, we recommend flying into Ontario International Airport (ONT) or John Wayne Airport (SNA). If you are flying into ONT, please make sure it is Ontario, California and NOT Ontario, Canada. We live here and we get moderate anxiety whenever we have to fly home and hope that we did not accidentally book a flight to Canada.

  • Taxis, Ubers, and Lyfts are all available in Southern California. Rental cars would also be a good option if you plan to explore other parts of Southern California for the weekend. There is plenty of free self parking at the venue.

Dining

  • Mo-Mo-Paradise

December is the perfect time for hot pot, and Mo-Mo-Paradise is our favorite place to get hot pot! Like most hot pot places, you get to choose a soup base and choose from a variety of thinly sliced meats and vegetables to cook in the hot pot (which is all-you-can-eat). What makes Mo-Mo-Paradise stand out is that they also have an a drink bar featuring unlimited boba tea and local sodas, as well as a pot of curry rice for you to get at any time. Yelp

  • Ohshima Japanese Cuisine

If you are in the mood for sushi, check out this hole-in-the-wall! We recommend getting the “omakase” where the chef chooses a 10-piece sushi meal for you. For the best experience, we also recommend sitting at the sushi bar where the chef serves the sushi directly to you one at a time so the flavors are fresh. Yelp

  • Wang Cho

One of our favorite meals to get is all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ. There are many places to get Korean BBQ in Southern California, but Wang Cho is one of our favorites. At these restaurants, you are served raw meat that you grill on a stove in front of you. It is a fun experience to have with a large group of friends. Yelp

  • Crema Cafe

Located right on Main Street in Seal Beach, Crema Cafe is a great spot to eat for brunch! We especially love their eggs benedict and their freshly made pastries. After eating brunch, you can walk right down Main Street to the ocean and enjoy the Southern California beach. Yelp

  • Rodeo 39 Public Market

Rodeo 39 is a food hall which houses 30 different vendors for food and other shopping. If you are interested in trying out lots of different types of food then Rodeo 39 would be great for you. We have visited several times and have tried something different each time and enjoyed everything we have tried there. In particular, we recommend trying “Kra Z Kai’s BBQ” for authentic Laotian BBQ, “Phoholic” for great Pho noodle soup, and Banh Xeo Boys for their delicious Banh Xeo (savory Vietnamese crepe filled with pork and shrimp). Yelp

  • Foo Foo Tei

This hole-in-the-wall ramen shop was where we had our first date! We still find ourselves coming back here for their excellent Japanese food. Jenn’s favorite is the Nanchatte Tonkotsu Ramen which has a creamy broth and Justin’s favorite is the Teriyaki Chicken plate. Yelp

Sightseeing

  • Disneyland & California Adventure

Southern California is home to the world famous Disneyland and California Adventure theme parks! You can spend an entire day going to just one of the parks, or both of them. Additionally, there are many places to shop and dine near the parks (Downtown Disney and Garden Walk Mall). If you plan on visiting Disneyland during your stay, we recommend spending the entire day at the park so you get a chance to experience as many of the rides and attractions as you can. There is also a fireworks show at the end of the night for you to enjoy.

  • Crystal Cove

Crystal Cove is a state beach nestled between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. Because of its state park status, it feels secluded and peaceful compared to the nearby beaches. We have come here several times while we were dating and particularly enjoyed walking along the sand, hiking in the cliffs, and spotting various animals including dolphins. There is one restaurant inside the park called “The Beachcomber” that offers validated parking if you dine there (but the wait can be long).

  • Little Tokyo

Little Tokyo is a part of downtown Los Angeles that is home to many Japanese restaurants and stores. We have visited Little Tokyo many time throughout our relationship. From providing a place of rest during Anime Expo, to visiting the Japanese American National Museum (JANM), to attending one of the several festivals hosted there. Although it is quite far from the venue, we definitely recommend checking out Little Tokyo if you get the chance!
